Bogart

Here is a logo I did for a friend of mine for her business. The Illustration came easily, but the type was very hard to do; spacing, placement. I know next to nothing about type. I should take a class on it. Typography is very interesting.

Final Proposal

Here is my final submission for the Bay Window Project. Made the scale model...which was a new experience for me, my head just about exploded with all the math I had to do!
But I am pleased with the results.

BSU Bay Window Project

So exciting news for myself, as well as a confidence booster. I was accepted to the next stage of the Bay Window Project at BSU. The project was a call for artists to submit ideas to BSU to add Art to their permanent collection. The works accepted will be hung in the Student Union Building for everyone to see. I haven't been truly accepted yet, but they did allow me to move on to the second stage, which is building a scale model of my idea for the public to view and comment on. I don't even care if I get chosen, just the fact that I got off my bum and tried for something is GREAT! ...not that I will try any less to get accepted. I'm definitely going for it!
My idea is based on the prints "Snowday" and "Sundown." The idea is to take one print based on nature and turn it into an abstract idea through repetition. I'm not sure on a title yet, but here are the sketches...

Snowday

This is a woodblock print I did in January. I've been enjoying working with the concept of nature as abstract. A great artist to check out, if anyone is interested, is Gerhard Richter and his book entitled "Wald." He does an amazing job of capturing the idea of abstraction in nature.

Something from a few weeks ago...

This print is titled "Sundown." It was made by using screen print and woodblock techniques.

And an Illustration...

I did this as an assignment for a book cover. I choose one of my all time favorite books, "Wizard of Earthsea" by Ursula K. LeGuinn. It is the scene were Ged meets the doorkeeper and tries to enter the school for wizards.

Aside from paintings...

I started studying printmaking last Fall. It has become somewhat of a new obsession for me. In my ignorance, I had first viewed the subject as tedious and hard to do. Now I find it to be extremely rewarding and actually very therapeutic. There are so many ways to lend yourself to this medium.

I traveled to Japan (Summer 08) and became captivated with their power lines. I took several pictures of them. These prints are based on some of my photos.

These are two monotypes titled "Mino 1" and "Mino 2"

Two collographs titled "To-go 1" and "To-go 2"

More paintings...

So now that summer is here I "plan" on getting my butt in gear. The idea is to sketch a lot and come up with something that is not an assignment...so we'll see out that goes.

In the mean time here are some paintings I did...

I title this "Fog in a Bog"

"Indian Paintbrush"

Just to keep it going...

Here are some paintings I did in 2007. Yes, a long long time ago, but I am being lazy and haven't photographed any of the pieces that I am working on at the moment. Getting into the groove of this whole blogging thing is hard...so I'll work with what I have and try to turn this into a habit.

A couple of studies I did for class...
